Effects of oral Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum probiotics on microRNAs expression in colon cancer

Colorectal cancer is the fourth and the third common cancer in the world Iran, respectively. Application of biological treatments without side effects such as probiotics is more suitable advance for this cancer. Thirty-eight male BALB/c mice were randomly divided to 4 groups to study Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum effects on microRNAs expression in colon cancer. Expect for control, other animals were weekly received azoxymethane (15 mg/kg B.W) for 3 consecutive weeks to create colon cancer. Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum probiotics (5 gr/daily, drinking water) were taken from ten days before azoxymethane administration to five months after. At the end of the study, colon and liver tissues were isolated to evaluate the expression of microRNAs including miR-18a-5p, miR-135b, miR-122-5p, miR-221-3p, miR-200c-3p, miR-155-5p and miR-26b-5p and the genes, APC, KRAS, PTEN, COX-2, PU.1, ZEB-2 and Bcl-W.
